Bio
Emily Hanna Crane enjoys a dynamic career as a performer and educator. She is the Professor of Music, teaching violin, viola, and chamber music, and is the Coordinator of the Orchestra Strings Area at Austin Peay State University. Dr. Crane is also a Suzuki-registered teacher with a vibrant local studio.
A founding member of Clarksville’s Gateway Chamber Orchestra, Dr. Crane serves as co-concertmaster and can be heard on GCO's second commercial recording, Chamber Symphonies, which was released by Summit Records in May 2012. In addition to the GCO, Dr. Crane has served as concertmaster and associate concertmaster of the Valley (S. Tex.) and Tallahassee (Fla.) Symphony Orchestras, principal second violin of the Paducah (Ky.) Symphony Orchestra, and has played in the violin sections of several orchestras including the Nashville (Tenn.), Nashville Opera and Ballet, Tallahassee Ballet, Jacksonville (Fla.), Bryan (Tenn.), Laredo (Tex.), and Columbus (Ga.) Symphony Orchestras. Dr. Crane has given solo and chamber concerts across the U. S., Canada, Taiwan, Italy, and several other countries across Europe. She has been the featured concerto soloist with the Gateway Chamber, APSU Symphony, Trevecca Symphony, Parthenon Chamber, the Valley Symphony, the UTPA Chamber, and the Tallahassee Youth Orchestras. As a chamber musician, she has been as a member of Intersection (Nashville, Tenn), the Hanna-Yang Duo, Tango Sur (Fla.), Quartet alla Turca, and the Eppes Quartet (FSU). Dedicated to promoting contemporary music, Dr. Crane has premiered several works by living composers including Jeffrey Wood (Sonata for violin and piano, 2013), Clifton Callender (Metamorphoses II, 2009, on Pendulum, Navona Records, Parma Recordings), and Ju-Hwan Yu (Sonata No. 1 for violin and piano, 2004, Kum-Seong Records). She is an active Nashville studio musician performing on numerous film and video game soundtracks.
Dr. Crane is an adjudicator, clinician, and coach for summer festivals, honor orchestras, and conferences across the country. She is also an active member of the American String Teachers Association, serving in leadership roles at the state and national levels.
Dr. Crane earned degrees in violin performance from Florida State University (Doctor of Music and Master of Music, studies with Eliot Chapo, Gary Kosloski, Karen Clarke) and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Bachelor of Music, studies with Richard Luby).
